Thoughts.

Look around, at some point in each other lives, we believed that Santa Claus existed. Fictional or not, no one had a clue. But that brought happiness to the kids when we shared with them the amazing story of Christmas.
Believing in yourself is the key to achieving almost everything you want in life; happiness. Of course hard work will pay off, but nothing beats believing in yourself that it will happen. They say spread the positivity, spread that optimism.
But doesn’t that take one to believe that it will happen or have experienced before sending that message across? Otherwise, wouldn’t it just appear to be words with no meaning and no emotions to it at all?

Digital Age - Yay or Nay?

In August, a CosmopolitanSG post popped up on my newsfeed that triggered my writing "skills". And just a couple of minutes ago, I was reading this post.

Quoting from my CosmoSG submission
Look at ourselves on the train, everyone whipping out their gadgets instead of greeting one another or even noticing the same person who boards the same train with you everyday! (remember how our parents met on the street & fell in love?)

--- On 7 October, while I was on the train to City Hall (NSL), some guy who I coincidentally caught eye contact with on the Train, walked up to me and said Hi. Taken aback by the situation, kinda contradicts this statement that I have made. Then again, I don't even take the NSL on a daily basis! A bit scary though! A smile would have worked more than a sudden approach of "Hi"---

Quoting from the ST post above...
The video-watcher and game-player, fake-eyelash owner and fake-sleeper, rosary-counter and hair-fiddler. No eye contact is the law even if occasional kissing is permissible.

Intrigued, I felt like churning this post out almost immediately.

Digital Age, as defined by Wikipedia (the people dictionary) it is the Information Age (also known as the Computer Age, Digital Age, or New Media Age) of a period in human history characterized by the shift from traditional industry that the industrial revolution brought through industrialization, to an economy based on information computerization.

I guess this has always been the dilemma of many when it comes to choosing whether the Digital Age really has brought us economic progress. To a certain extent, I am certain that we have progressed well with the advancement in Technology  - from our old typewriters to space-consuming computers, black and white television to television that will allow you to connect to the internet, to your laptops and etc. The creation, the innovation that technology has brought about to motivate the people in the world creates a form of incredulity. I will never be that smart-aleck who is behind the greatness of such inventions – Never.

But with all these inventions, with all these advancement, we lose our emotions; we lose the way to connect in reality. We turn out like robots of our own lives dictated by others, dictated by society.

I wouldn’t go into details on how I feel about the different type of innovations these days especially – Smartphones.

I do agree, it did make a lot of things more convenient. Accessing your emails can never come by as an excuse anymore as you get them pushed into the app that you have installed on the phone. Introverts can always front a fake personality or have an outlet where they can communicate with others through means like LINE, whatsapp and so much more. But.. as technology move forth, are the people movig forward as well? Are we changing to become the better, or... the opposite?

Let's start on the right track - Mr November.

xoxo
Andrea
