I know I know, I should be reviewing products and uploading make-up tutorials for now, but I just want to share my thoughts on this movie that I caught on friday with my bestfriend Janice!
As usual, we were both late, so we kinda missed 5-minutes of the beginning of the show. But the rest of the clip made up for it! Initially when I first saw the movie preview on insing/movies. I was a little sceptical. I thought it was going to be another mundane movie, but to both our surprises, it wasn't!
In fact, it was HILARIOUS. I can even spell it backwards for you! So the story talked about Michelle Chong (lead actress and director of film) who was from Yong Peng Malaysia - Lim Ka Kiao (Zann - a combination of Zoe Tay and Fann Wong's name) wanted to be a star very badly.
The show started of with Lim Ka Kiao being a Singapore drama-addict. The young malaysian girl then headed off to Singapore to fulfill her dreams of becoming a famous TV star. Inspired and only having knowledge of the media industry in Singapore through the H Magazine (If I'm not wrong) and television, she met a lot of obstacles.
From trying to audition for Singapore's famous "Star Search" to engaging with local carelefare agents. There is this certain sarcasm in the show talking about how Singapore's stars are turning to non-locals and emphasizing its SINGAPORE'S Star Search and the struggle to attain a position in Singapore's Media Industry. Well, at least, that's how I view it.
During her stay in Singapore, she was working under a beauty line called "Pure Beauty", where she was working with two other male staffs who acted as gays, one from Singapore, another from Philippines. Guest starring famous local celebrities like Alaric Tay from the noose, Cynthia Koh, Kumar, David Gan, Bryan Wong made the show had more ommppph!
How can we miss taiwan celebrity - Xiao Gui, or Alien Huang, who played the role of a shy coffee shop assistant named Ah Seng. I was glad he did not have very strong Taiwanese accent, his character was rather submissive in a way.
In this show, I think Michelle Chong made it happen. Her acting skills were superb. In my opinion, I feel that ever since her debut at The Noose, it allowed Singaporeans, and anyone who watches The Noose to finally see what she was capable of presenting. She was more than a show emcee! Together with this movie, its definitely commendable for a lady like her to achieve so much in her life!
Oh! And believe me, although it was a 120hr show, you'll definitely want to stay and watch the NGs part. The little boy with the tutu's imitating Black Swan was soooooo cute!
Points to Note: You've got to understand a little bit of the Hokkien Dialect & Listen to the part when Michelle was at the coffee shop, and the TV channel was switched to football channel. Listen to what the football "emcee" was saying. (little details, little tiny details! - I Like!)
My ratings: 3.5/5 PopCorns!
